Guitar Hero vs Rock Band - Who's winning the marketing war?

A recent stop to Toys R Us to take advantage of their oh so tasty Buy 2 Games Get 1 Free promo going on this week. That's where I took this pic.

To say that the battle between Guitar Hero and Rock Band this month was intense was an understatement. We'll soon see NPD numbers for September which will validate who at least was stronger out the gate.

Activision threw out the first volley and said that Guitar Hero was crushing The Beatles: Rock Band in sales at least by 4 to 1. Then just this week a couple of analysts, including Michael Patcher, forecasted that Rock Band actually outsold Guitar Hero.

I found it hard to believe that The Beatles: Rock Band could outsell Guitar Hero. After all, although The Beatles are considered THE best group of all time, it is still ONLY one group.

So here I was thinking that Guitar Hero would be dominant... until I was in Toys R Us!

Cuz i have rockband 1 and 2, guitar hero world tour and metallica. I dont plan on gettin the beatles cuz im one of the few in the world that doesnt like them, i can care less for them. thats just me. I love these music games so i have the best of both worlds.

I buy Rock Band games because they always have a better set list.

They both are great games. I prefer GH over Rock Band because GH seems to be a bit harder. Playing expert on Rock Band can get boring but that is my opinion.

1 band(that I only like some songs) compared to 83 bands and RUSH, Dire Straits, Bob Dylan etc, it's GH5 4 me

I've always hated guitar heroes. The drums never feel right, and according to my friend, neither does the guitar. The calibration is always funky and the animations haven't matured since guitar hero 3. They're still awkward looking guys making weird movements.

Harmonix just has an uncanny attention to detail. So what if they're not harder, I'd rather play the song how it is, not how the maker of the game wants it to be. It could be the best set list in the world but with Guitar Hero doing it, the song is usually just ruined. (their track list has a few gems but it mostly populated by unknown garbage songs)

Not only that, but Guitar Heroes customer service is terrible. Is it really that much of a hurtle to be able to transfer songs from one disc to another like Rock Band does it? Or how about the half dozen guitar heroes released every year... It just gets old. I'd rather have one game a year with tons of sweet DLC so then, you could just pick what songs you want instead of overpaying for a playlist that's 50% trash.

And I'm aware that Beatles Rock Band doesn't let you transfer songs. But it's The Beatles and the game was custom made for The Beatles, therefore the songs only belong in the Beatles game.

Rock Band FTW.

Looks like PlayStation took a hit with Marathon and is now quietly adjusting prices worldwide to recover the losses

The price increases are due to the RAM demand associated with AI and the US-Iran war. You can look to any business news website and local news to see that. Heck, even the 2026 Asus Zenbook Duo I've been eyeing has faced delays and has had a price increase of $400; that laptop has two specs. Asus is doing a staggered release with per-orders for the lower spec now and shipping in May and pre-orders for the higher spec that I'm eyeing starting in June. Basically, all computer manufactures are affected. It'll most likely start affecting smart phones too if it hasn't already. I can't remember the last time any major console maker (Nintendo, Sony, Sega, etc) increased the price of their console mid cycle outside of Microsoft just to make more profit.

Kiln Review - Half Baked | CGMagazine

CGMagazine writes: "And as I said, the actual game of Kiln is so genuinely boring that playing it to unlock the creative tools was such a massive chore that I genuinely started to resent it by the end. Battling is a monotonous button masher. There are only five arenas, and despite being based on different gods from various mythologies, none are particularly memorable in visual style or music. And it’s all just such a homogeneous mess of nothing."
